Seattle Seahawks 2022 Draft: 3 potential day one trades
By Jake Luppino
Trade number 3: Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants
In this trade scenario, the Seahawks would be the aggressor and the Giants would be the beneficiary. The Giants are in a position where the draft can come to them. With many holes on that roster, they have some flexibility in the draft. Not to mention, they would still have two picks in the top 10 if this deal were to happen.
For Seattle, moving up to 5 would mean one thing: they are in absolute love with a quarterback. I do not see the Seahawks making this type of move without a quarterback coming out on the other end. Despite the fact that implications point towards Drew Lock as the starter for 2022, we have seen surprise trades go down before the draft.
If–and this is a big if–this deal were to happen, Seattle would leapfrog the Panthers – who hold the 6th pick – and be the team that selects the first quarterback in the draft. Even though the Seahawks are holding a pre-draft visit for Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder, I see them being interested in only two quarterbacks at the number 5 spot in the draft.
The big arm talent out of Liberty fits what Seattle likes to do offensively. His dual-threat presence can resemble somewhat of what Russell Wilson did in his early days. But, many question whether or not he can be a day one starter.
If it weren’t for a late injury in the 2021 season, many believe Matt Corral would be atop the quarterback rankings. Again, his arm strength and athleticism fit with Seattle’s offensive scheme. But, just like Willis, many believe he needs refining.
