With day 1 of the 2022 NFL draft beginning tomorrow and the Seattle Seahawks possessing substantial draft capital such as the 9th overall pick, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of John Schneider’s best draft work in his first 14 drafts as Seahawks general manager.

While I will be ranking my choices for the 5 best picks Schneider has ever made, I want to stress that it is not simply just a list of the 5 best players Schneider has drafted.  In this list, I will be putting a substantial emphasis on the value of the draft choice, taking a look at how valuable a player was as a Seahawk was while also considering the spot they were chosen at.

To do this as unbiased as possible, I created my own metric to determine the value of a draft pick.   I’m going to take the overall pick of the player, and for each Pro Bowl appearance, I will multiply the pick by 1.1, for each All-Pro appearance I will multiply by an additional .3, .2 for a Super Bowl win, and .3 for a Super Bowl MVP.

For example, a player drafted 41st overall with 2 Pro Bowl appearances and 1 All-Pro appearance would receive a value grade of 61.5 (41×1.5=61.5).

Who are the five best draft choices since 2010 for the Seattle Seahawks?

With all of the turbulence we 12s have endured over the 2022 offseason, I think this list is a great reminder of just how good some of Schneider’s draft work has been.  Not only has he gotten some of the best value picks in Seahawks history, but it is also 100 percent fair to say he has gotten some of the best value pick in NFL history.

So, while Seattle’s future may seem murky at the moment, the Seahawks could be poised to reload their talent with more of John Schneider’s great draft work.
