While there were lots of different trades during the first round of 2022 NFL draft, the Seahawks weren’t part of any of them. That is a good thing as it means DK Metcalf is still in Seattle.

Metcalf’s former college teammate, A.J. Brown, did get traded during the draft. Brown was traded from the Titans to the Eagles for pick number 18 and 101 overall. This after several notable receiver trades this offseason already. Tyreek Hill went from the Chiefs to the Dolphins. Davante Adams went from the Packers to the Raiders.

To be fair, if the Seahawks had any inkling of trading Metcalf during the first round, after seeing what Tennessee got back for Brown might have cemented the thought that Seattle should just hold on to Metcalf. Philadelphia didn’t really have to give up much to get Brown.

Seahawks don’t trade DK Metcalf in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft and that is a great thing

A.J. Brown and DK Metcalf‘s numbers in three years are definitely comparable. So maybe a team wasn’t going to give up as much as some thought for Metcalf. Tennessee ended up taking a receiver with pick 18 so basically what happened was Tennessee gave up a receiver to get a receiver and only gained choice number 18.

But the Seahawks keeping Metcalf makes it appear that Seattle really didn’t want to get rid of Metcalf, a young and talented receiver who should be productive for many years to come. Metcalf should be part of the basis of the offense no matter who is playing quarterback.

After trading for Brown, the Eagles signed him to an extension that pays him up to $100 million for four years with $57 million guaranteed. The receiver market has blown up this year but Metcalf should be signed to an extension worth every bit of the amount that Brown got.

And that Seattle didn’t trade Metcalf hopefully means the next step in the Seahawks-Metcalf relationship is to get an extension completed before the season. Plus, maybe Seattle really does think it can do well in 2022 because not giving up Metcalf means they are trying to keep some of the best players still around.
