There seems to be no true offseason in the NFL anymore as the Seattle Seahawks news never stops. This includes speculation of a DK Metcalf extension, a player being released, and rookie minicamp starting.

Of course, this week we also learned that Seattle will be traveling overseas during the 2022 season to partake in the first regular season NFL game in Germany. The Seahawks will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10. It will be an early start for 12s as the game will be live at 6:30 am PT.

12s also learned, to no surprise, that Seattle will not be exercising its fifth-year option on 2019 first-round choice L.J. Collier. Collier was a huge disappointment in 2021 and isn’t expected to do much this coming season either.

DK Metcalf to be with Seahawks long-term?

Seattle receiver Metcalf was on the Club Shay Shay Podcast this week and reiterated his desire to get an extension done with Seattle. When asked by host Shannon Sharpe about staying in Seattle, Metcalf said, “I will say we are going to get something done…I think I’m going to be in Seattle for the next coming years, yes sir.” He also said he “wants” to be in Seattle.

This is a great thing as after trading Russell Wilson this offseason, Seattle’s quarterback position is iffy currently. The receiver market in the NFL is exploding with cash right now but a receiver needs to get the ball a bunch to put up large production. Does Seattle have the system and the quarterback to help Metcalf do that?

At least Seattle will have plenty of cap room next offseason and that means plenty of space in which to give a lot of money to Metcalf. A deal of $25 million a season (or more) should be expected. Hopefully, the Seahawks get a deal done before the season and end any potential drama of not signing Metcalf.

Seattle releases Niles Scott

Among the many moves this week following the NFL draft, Seattle got a few deals done with UDFAs but also released defensive tackle Scott. The 26-year-old Scott has bounced around the league a bit since 2018. He was on the Seattle practice squad at the end of the 2021 season but is now looking for a new home.

Rookie minicamp gets underway

On Friday, the Seahawks newest players get to start their own three-day minicamp. This will be the first time 12s get to see players like Kenneth Walker III and Bo Melton do drills in a Seattle uniform. There won’t be any contact but it will be fun to watch the new guys fly around the field. Rookie minicamp goes through Sunday.
