Marquise Blair

Marquise Blair was never meant to be a slot corner. He has played safety in the NFL and wasn’t bad doing it. But there is no way the Seahawks can count on him to be consistently healthy enough to play any spot on the field. Even if Seattle didn’t already have Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs, Blair shouldn’t be the starter because he misses too much time.

Still, Blair, when he does play, shows the ability to be a very good player in the NFL. Let’s not forget that Blair was taken in the second round of 2019 because he was expected to be an impactful player. If that were untrue then Seattle shouldn’t expect much out of 2022 second-round picks Kenneth Walker III and Boye Mafe, right?

In the last two seasons, Blair, having no home at safety with Adams and Diggs there, has been given a chance to start at nickelback. But he has only managed to play 8 games total. According to Pro Football Focus, Blair had a coverage grade in 2019, his rookie season when he played 14 games and started three, of 80.8 which is near elite. In very limited time in 2020, his run support grade was 78.8.

Blair can be a good player but he needs to find a way to stay healthy.

In 2022, Blair will bounce back from the knee injury he suffered in 2021 and move back to safety. There he will finally stay healthy and see significant time filling in for both Diggs and Adams at times and he will have 2 interceptions and a sack.
