Extend DK

Metcalf’s rookie deal is over after the 2022 season. As he was a second-round pick, the Seahawks do not have a fifth-year option for him. There is a good chance that if a long-term deal cannot be worked out with Metcalf before 2023 that Seattle places the franchise tag on Metcalf, but no one really wants things to get that far surely.

With Metcalf only being 24 years old still and having two straight seasons of double-digit touchdown catches and one season where he broke the Seahawks single-season record for receiving yards, he is going to make a lot of money in his next contract. And he deserves it.

Not only is Metcalf a very talented player (and one who has missed just one game in his three seasons after many teams were worried Metcalf might get hurt a lot as a pro – this is one reason he fell to round two) but he is also excellent with fans and has the personality to be one of the faces of the franchise. According to Sportsnaut.com, Metcalf currently has the best-selling jersey for the Seahawks.

With the way the wide receiver market is exploding, Seattle is likely going to have to pay Metcalf north of $25 million a season starting in 2023. But Seattle also currently has the sixth-most cap space in the NFL for next year. Besides Metcalf, Seattle doesn’t really have any players coming up that they are going to have to play loads to next year so Seattle should have no reason to extend Metcalf but do it this offseason before the season starts.
