In some Seahawks news from the past few days, Seattle signed its first-round pick and Phil Knight wants to buy the Trailblazers. Here’s why that matters.

Of course, we are in the time of year when if there is usually any real NFL news, it’s because something bad has happened. Sure, OTAs are going on, but there isn’t much true information from that unless someone doesn’t show.

Still, an inkling of useful stuff does come through every week. Here are two notable things that happened.

Seahawks news: Charles Cross signs his rookie deal

Charles Cross is official a Seahawk

Not that there was any real drama in this as the way NFL deals work now for draftees leaves any possibility they won’t sign out of the equation. Contracts are slotted and just the particulars are to be worked out.

Cross signed a fully-guaranteed contract four-year deal worth $21.38 million, but the Seahawks do have an option after Cross’s third season to add a fifth year to the deal. His contract includes a bonus of $12.73 million so dinner is on Cross for the next while.

The interesting aspect is that Cross acted as his own agent so he won’t have to give any money to a licensed one. This likely only reinforces the perception that Cross isn’t only physically skilled but he is smart too.

Nike’s Phil Knight wants to buy the NBA Trailblazers

Knight’s written offer of more than $2 billion to buy the Portland Trailblazers doesn’t directly affect the Seahawks. But indirectly it could have a massive bearing on when and if the team sells.

Reported surfaced over the last week that the Paul Allen Trust requires the Seahawks (and the Trailblazers) to be put up for sale after his passing. Allen passed away in 2018 and since his death, the team has been run by his sister, Jody.

dark. Next. People who would make up a dream team of Seahawks owners

The Trailblazers could be sold separately while the Seahawks continue to be owned by the trust. Knight and Alan Smolinisky made the offer to buy the Trailblazers but were told “no thanks.” But that won’t stop people from offering to buy the NBA team and likely means there will be people who decide to make offers for the Seahawks too.
