3 players the Seahawks should cut before the season

Player 3: Seahawks running back Chris Carson
I am a bit surprised Carson is still on the team. I am not completely sure what the Seahawks are waiting for in releasing him. He seems to be on the cusp of never playing again due to a neck injury. And I don’t mean to sound harsh here. My point in releasing Carson is about the football team, not him as a human being. If I had Carson’s neck injury, I’d quit and not risk crippling myself for life.
That said, Carson is a lot tougher player than I could ever be. He runs with tenacity and brute force is often how he picks up his yards. Still, his style of play doesn’t seem to really work with what Shane Waldron wants t do offensively. Carson is more of a straight-ahead runner and Waldron’s offense works better with backs who can make quick cuts, as Rashaad Penny did in the last third of the 2021 season.
Carson hasn’t been as injured as some might think. He missed a combined seven games between 2018 and 2020. But the issue is when Carson gets hurt which is many times near the end of seasons so he isn’t available for the playoffs. A big reason is that Carson takes a lot of punishment, as well as dishing some out, throughout the year. By the time the end of the year comes around, he’s too banged up to be productive.
Also, the Seahawks chose Ken Walker in this year’s draft and he looks like a perfect fit in the Waldron system. If Penny is RB1 then Walker is going to be RB1.5. By 2023, Walker, if healthy, should be the clear number one back. Walker keeps Carson from playing much and Carson’s injury, unfortunately, means he needs to be cut.
