The Seahawks start training camp in July and the season is less than three months away. So in our latest roster projection, who makes the team?

Of course, a lot can change between now and the first week of the season. In fact, one of those changes I have happening at quarterback. But maybe Chris Carson makes a miraculous recovery from his neck injury as well. It seems few expect that to happen, though.

Finally, Seattle has a lot of young talent on defense but it is unproven talent. Which players end up sticking on the team on that side of the ball? Here is my best guess.

Predicting who makes the Seahawks active roster in 2022

Quarterback

On the roster: Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith and Drew Lock

Practice squad: Jacob Eason

OK, I will start with a surprise (but kind of not a surprise). I think Mayfield is eventually released by the Browns as they don’t find a suitor willing to take much of his salary. Cleveland, instead of getting anything at all back for Mayfield, releases him and the Seahawks scoop him up and he becomes the Week 1 starter.

For the first time in years, I think Seattle keeps three quarterbacks on the active roster because in years past the Seahawks could assume Russell Wilson would play every down of every game. There wasn’t a need for a third QB. Now that Wilson is gone, there is. Plus, I still think Seattle wants to figure out if Lock can actually play and might be a backup in 2023.
