Biggest offseason moves for each of Seahawks NFC west rivals
Rams re-sign Seahawks nemesis, and there was no rejoicing
At least there was no rejoicing in the Emerald City. As all 12s know to their sorrow, the Los Angels Rams re-signed the human avalanche, Aaron Donald, to a new – and quite enormous – contract. In my mind, if the Rams had somehow lost both Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford, keeping Donald on the team would have made up for those losses. Yes, he is that important to their success, as we painfully acknowledge.
Bret Stuter of RamblinFan wrote what I can only describe as a celebratory article. We’ll do the same when the Seahawks announce an extension for our chiseled wide receiver. Rams fans are absolutely right to celebrate. Aaron Donald is undoubtedly the one defensive player that can consistently take over a game. We’ve seen too much of it, and frankly, I wish he had retired.
That was hardly the only big offseason move by Los Angeles. In a move that had a particularly sharp sting, Seahawks legend Bobby Wagner signed with the City of Angels. Well, actually just one of their football teams, but Bobby, couldn’t you have done all the 12s a favor and gone home to the Chargers? Ah well; he wasn’t staying in Seattle, and he is from L.A. As with Russ, I hope Bobby has a fantastic year but loses to the Seahawks.
The Rams did lose several key players, though. Rush specialist Von Miller, corner Darious Williams, and center Austin Corbett have all moved to other teams. The biggest loss of all has to be tackle Andrew Whitworth, who showed every sign of playing until he was 102. That is a huge loss for the Rams; together, that’s an under-the-radar earthquake. Sorry, but under the seismograph simply doesn’t play as well.
The Seahawks lost two terrific players. There is no way to sugarcoat that. We don’t know how well Wilson’s successor will perform under center, although there are reasons to expect success for either Geno Smith or Drew Lock. Cody Barton looked really good in his limited audition for Bobby Wagner’s job. And again, the Hawks struck gold with their 2030 draft. I have to say they had the best off-season in the division.
