Three QB options in 2022 for Seahawks after Baker Mayfield trade
By Lee Vowell
Seahawks should go after Eagles QB Gardner Minshew
A lot of 12s would like to see former Washington State Cougar Minshew return to Seattle and be the quarterback of the Seahawks. But to be sure, Minshew wouldn’t just be a local guy (at least as far as college goes) who did OK. He has shown in limited time in the NFL that he might actually be good enough to lead an offense for some time if given the chance.
Minshew started off in the NFL playing two years for some lousy Jacksonville Jaguars teams. Minshew still managed to go 6-6 in his 12 starts for the Jaguars in 2019. Jacksonville was 0-4 in games when Minshew didn’t start. The next year Minshew was just 1-7 in 8 starts for the Jags. But the team was 0-8 in all the rest of the games.
Basically, between 2019 and 2020, if Jacksonville didn’t start Minshew at quarterback, they didn’t win.
Minshew has put up decent numbers in his three years. His interception rate is 1.4 which is incredibly low. His career touchdown-to-interception ratio is 42-12. His QBR is 93.9 which is very good considering his days in Jacksonville.
Minshew just needs a true chance to show what he can do. He is a true point guard QB and will not create turnovers. He is smart and was well-coached at WSU by Mike Leach and that helped him prepare for the NFL as well. The Seahawks need to trade for him and give him a chance to start.
