3 reasons to be excited about the Seahawks in 2022
By Lee Vowell
Reason 2: The Seahawks have a top five receiving duo in the NFL
No matter who will be throwing the football to DK Metcalf or Tyler Lockett, one thing is for sure: The two receivers will be productive. They simply have too much talent, despite who the quarterback is, to not be very good. Heck, maybe Metcalf is even more productive this year because, at times in 2021, Russell Wilson seemed to struggle to get the ball to him.
Lockett has two of the best hands in the NFL. In 2021, Lockett led the league with zero drops and he was targeted 107 times (not nearly enough). In 2019, Lockett had only 2. And in 2018, zero again. This is why his 8 drops in 2020 were so shocking. Lockett will probably never come close to that many again and instead keep making ridiculous catches. Like this…
Metcalf, of course, is a free agent after 2022 and will want every opportunity he has to be great and earn a mega-deal in 2023. I mean, he probably is going to anyway but with an incredible season he is going to add a few more million dollars to his new deal and who doesn’t want a few extra million.
Heck, with a quarterback – either Drew Lock or Geno Smith – who is also in the last year of his own deal and trying to earn his next contract, Metcalf might find that Smith or Lock are trying to find him more than Wilson did. Let’s just hope that Smith or Lock is pretty accurate because if they are, Lockett and Metcalf will definitely help them look good.
