The Seahawks lost a lot of talent this offseason when they traded Russell Wilson and released Bobby Wagner. But is Seattle’s roster really among the worst?

Well, according to Mike Clay of ESPN, the Seahawks are. In fact, Seattle only has three position groups that are better than the league average. Though one that he has ranked as below par seems just way off.

I get that Clay has Seattle’s quarterback group ranked low. Everyone does and until Geno Smith or Drew Lock or someone else (Jimmy G?) proves a Seahawks QB can lead the team to success in 2022 then people have the right to question the unit.

The same can be said of the offensive line. This has traditionally been one of the weaker groups on the roster since Pete Carroll and John Schneider became the leading voices in building the team each season in 2010. Some years the O-line is meh and some years it’s just not good.

But the unit could potentially be great by 2023 and should get better as the season wears on this coming year. But as of right now, it’s a question mark.

But the linebackers ranked in the second half of the league? What? Even Pro Football Focus has the position group ranked in the top eight of the NFL. Jordyn Brooks should have been a Pro Bowler last year and now that he is out of the shadow of Wagner, should definitely make the Pro Bowl in 2022. Cody Barton looks like he can be good too.

But the position group that rankles me the most is that the running backs are ranked so low. If Rashaad Penny can stay healthy, he showed in the last five games of 2021 that he can be one of the best backs in the league. The Seahawks also added Ken Walker in the draft and he projects to be very good as well.

The bottom line is there simply seems to be a lot of national hate towards the Seahawks right now. Yes, the team traded Russell Wilson but he wasn’t the only reason Seattle won games. It wouldn’t be surprising if Seattle proves a lot of people wrong this coming season.
