3 most important Seahawks for the future on the current roster
By Lee Vowell
Most national pundits don’t expect the 2022 Seattle Seahawks to be very good. But three players on the current roster will have a say in future success.
The Seahawks are truly an unknown this coming year, no matter what people might say. Yes, they are sans Russell Wilson but Pete Carroll probably will find a way to keep the team at the worst competitive and at the best, playoff-bound.
But even without Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner, Seattle has a lot of young talent that could potentially develop into a championship contender. Id the correct quarterback is found to replace Wilson.
So, speaking of potential replacements for Wilson, I offer option number one for current Seahawks that could have an impact on the team’s future success.
The three most important Seahawks for the future of the team might be on the current roster
Seahawks QB Drew Lock
Lock is boom or bust. He could end up being a backup all season long to Geno Smith, or some other quarterback Seattle adds before Week 1 (Jimmy Garoppolo?). Or, and this is just as much of a possibility, Lock could become the starter for the Seahawks this season and be very good at his job.
Lock was poorly coached when he was with the Denver Broncos from 2019 through last year but he also has the physical ability to be a good NFL quarterback. Arm strength? In spades. Agility? Yep. But does he have the emotional capacity and intellect to be very good? We will find out.
Bit if – if – Lock is the Seahawks starter in 2022 and is good, that is a game-changer. If Lock is very good, the need to take a quarterback high in the 2023 NFL draft disappears. The Broncos took Lock in the second round in 2019 thinking he could be their long-term QB. He still might have the ability to be that for Seattle.
Or, you know, he could just be a complete bust and Seattle moves on from him after this season.
