In the past two days, the Seahawks have seen the unofficial official ends of three players’ time in Seattle. This includes Seattle great K.J. Wright.

Training camp is at least officially underway for the Seahawks for the 2022 season. There is a bit of good news for Seattle. DK Metcalf has come to camp, though he is not yet practicing. That is OK because at least he is there.

Seattle still has time to work out a contract with him that makes both the Seahawks and Metcalf happy before the beginning of the season. Let’s hope so anyway.

But three now-former Seattle players, including Chris Carson, have left home and at least two are very unlikely to play ever again. For one player, in particular, this marked the end of a career.

K.J. Wright signs a one-day deal with the Seahawks to end his career

Wednesday officially marked the end of an era of greatness for Seattle’s linebackers. Sure, maybe Jordyn Brooks can help get the unit back to the top of the NFL but after Bobby Wagner was released this offseason, no LB was left from the Legion of Boom days.

There was still a chance K.J. Wright could return but on Wednesday pen was put to paper that ended any speculation. Wright signed a one-day contract to officially end his NFL career. He wanted to retire as a Seahawk and he did.

Wright played 10 of his 11 years in Seattle and was universally beloved by all. He was a great player on the field but an even greater one off of it. He ranked third all-time in team history in tackles with 934 and his teams went to the playoffs eight times, including winning a Super Bowl for the 2013 season.

Wright, though, was much more than a football player. He raised money and visited Kenya to build freshwater wells. He has made a trip to Haiti to help build a school. He was Seattle’s nominee in 2018 for the NFL’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. In 2020, he won the Steve Largent Award for his citizenship.

Now, Wright won’t ever play again but he decided he didn’t truly want to unless it was a member of the Seattle Seahawks. After Wednesday, Wright is now a Seahawk forever.
