The Seahawks enter 2022 with many unknowns but making things even murkier could be Seattle releasing these three players once final roster cuts are made.

But the Seahawks are a team that is rebuilding (or retooling?) towards something in the future they hope will sustain their last decade of mostly success into another decade of the same. Maybe even another Super Bowl win or two?

Whoever Seattle chooses to keep on the Week 1 roster in 2022 might be the same players who help in 2023 and beyond. There are a lot of open positions yet to be determined, like cornerback and quarterback.

Let’s start with a cornerback who the Seahawks might think about releasing based on the production of some younger guys in Seattle’s recent mock game.

Three Seahawks that might find themselves out of a job when final roster cuts are made

Seahawks cornerback Sidney Jones

The way Tariq Woolen played in the mock game this past Saturday made Woolen look a lot more ready to play in the NFL than many may have thought previous to the mock game. Sure, Woolen was guarding receivers who were being thrown balls by Geno Smith and Drew Lock and not Russell Wilson, but Woolen looked like he had a full understanding of his job.

But Woolen’s goodness only hurts Sidney Jones. Jones hasn’t had a great training camp so far and was only good for the Seahawks in the second half of the 2021 season. His roster spot is definitely not a given this year.

In fact, Artie Burns has looked better than Jones in practice than has Jones and Burns is having trouble even hanging on in the NFL. Throw in the fact that rookie Coby Bryant already looks better than Jones could ever truly be and Jones might be facing an uphill climb to not be cut at the end of August.
