Seahawks receiver Dareke Young

Young was drafted in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft as a bigger receiver and looks a bit like former Seahawk receiver David Moore. Only, Young ran a 4.44 40 at his pro day at Lenoir-Rhyne so he is faster than Moore. If Young were able to make the team, he would give Seattle another bigger-bodied receiver and red zone threat.

After a not-great start to the Steelers game where Young dropped a pass, he ended up with 4 catches on 5 targets and one of those catches was for a touchdown in tight coverage. In fact, the touchdown play was exactly why Young deserves a shot to be on the team. He was able to shield the defender with his size and then secured the catch. It wasn’t a spectacular play in itself, but it was efficient.

Seattle will probably play lots of close games in 2022, because that is what they normally have done since Pete Carroll became the coach in 2010. With no Russell Wilson, there will likely be fewer splash plays and the offense will be a bit more methodical in working its way down the field.

This means receivers who can body=up defenders and make catches in tight situations and pick up first downs are a must. And based on what we saw from Young against the Steelers, he can do exactly that.
