New Seahawks receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside

Eagles brass and fans have to be laughing right now, right? They were able to trade a player who has 16 catches in three seasons after being a second-round choice and sent him to the Seahawks when Seattle didn’t need to add another receiver to the mix. Unless that receiver had already proven to be good. Arcega-Whiteside has been a massive disappointment in his career so far.

He showed why on Thursday. He was targeted twice and didn’t have a catch. One would have been for a touchdown when Jacob Eason threw a near-perfect pass towards Arcega-Whiteside who had his hands on the ball but then dropped it.

Arcega-Whiteside was tightly covered (one of the knocks on him is he doesn’t have breakaway speed) but he is a big receiver and those kinds of plays are exactly why he could make a decent living in the NFL.

But he can’t and he won’t because he doesn’t make contested catches. Surely, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside will not make the active 53-man roster and Seattle shouldn’t sign him to the practice squad either. That is, assuming no other NFL team tries to pick him up after he is released and why would they? He is not a good player.
