The Seattle Seahawks play their final preseason game of 2022 against the Dallas Cowboys on Friday. Several players have a lot to prove still.

The Seahawks looked passable in preseason game 1 against the Steelers though they got behind and had to try to catch up. Against the Bears in preseason game 2, Seattle looked as bad as they have since Pete Carroll became the coach in 2010.

I know you can’t take away too much from preseason but Seattle did play a bunch of first-team players versus Chicago and looked bad against second-and-third teamers for the Bears. It was ugly.

There are still a lot of open roster spots for Seattle and with just a few days left until teams must cut rosters from 80 to 53. On Friday against the Cowboys, the following players need to earn either their roster spots or their starting positions.

These Seahawks need to prove their worth against the Cowboys

Seahawks receiver Freddie Swain

Swain has been with the Seahawks for two seasons already and is a bit like David Moore was for Seattle previously. That is, Swain, like Moore, would sometimes make a huge and game-changing play (Swain caught 25 passes for an average of 20.2 yards a reception in 2021, for example) but couldn’t do anything consistently.

In Week 2 against the Titans, Swain had a 68-yard touchdown catch. In Week 17 against the Lions, Swain had a 58-yard reception. But he also went three straight games – weeks 8 through 11 – with having a catch. This is just like David Moore did.

Swain is a decent return guy and has speed, but he is never going to be a number-one receiver. He could be a decent fourth option but the Seahawks are clearly trying to add even more speed at receiver (the signing of Marquise Goodwin proves that) and Swain might just be the odd-man-out in Seattle. Unless, of course, he is fantastic against the Cowboys.
