Seahawks target number 1: Bryce Young, Alabama

There really isn’t anything to dislike about Bryce Young. He appears to have no weakness. He has an electric arm, can throw with touch and velocity, he can move around in the pocket but when forced to flush the pocket he makes smart decisions and extends plays. He also already seems polished enough to start in the NFL right now. And he has only started one season in college.

OK, so there is one reason a team might choose Stroud over Young. Stroud is 6’3″ and Young is “only” 5’11”. While Young’s size didn’t stop him from working passes over the middle of the field in 2021, there are likely teams who don’t want to take the chance that he can’t do that on the NFL level. To be fair, Russell Wilson seemed to not be as good working the ball in between the hash marks either the last couple of years.

But Young also looks like the closest quarterback to Wilson in some time. Young isn’t asked to run the ball much at Alabama but he can if needed. He basically would look more like fourth-year Wilson than rookie Wilson. The difference is that Young won’t run as much as Wilson did early in his career. And that’s OK.

Young is excellent at keeping his feet moving in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield. He won’t give up on plays. Young is also leagues better than anyone else on this list at throwing receivers open. With DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett on the Seahawks, Young will be a natural fit to work with them. That is especially true for Lockett. A Seahawks team with Young at quarterback and Metcalf and Lockett at receiver and a good running game should put Seattle right back in the Super Bowl mix a lot sooner than anticipated.
