Seahawks thin at CB per Thursday injury report for Week 1
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks are dealing with injuries to begin the season. Seattle is thin at one position that will need to be great versus Russell Wilson in Week 1.
The Seahawks kick off their 2022 season on Monday against Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. While teams sometimes start off a season with injuries, Seattle might be in a bit worse shape than most.
The reason for this is that Seattle is already a fairly thin team as far as knowing how good their talent and depth are. With some many young players, the Seahawks might be great or terrible in 2022 but there is no way of knowing until the real games begin.
But even with a lot of veterans able to play, Seattle would still have a daunting task trying to beat former Seahawk quarterback Russell Wilson. Part of the problem for Seattle is that it’s the veterans who are ailing.
Seahawks have injuries concerns based on Thursday’s injury report before Week 1
Did not participate in practice
Rookie running back Ken Walker III
Walker is still trying to come back from hernia surgery a few weeks ago. He hasn’t been completely ruled out at this point but seems unlikely to play.
Long snapper Tyler Ott
Ott’s injury must be new as there hasn’t been any recent mention of it. The Seahawks did sign veteran long snapper Carson Tinker this week and there is a decent chance Tinker could play Monday.
Edge rusher Alton Robinson
Robinson suffered a bruised knee in preseason and is still trying to come back from that.
Cornerback Artie Burns
Burns took a bunch of first-team reps in training camp. If he hadn’t gotten hurt (groin), he might be expected to hold down one of the starting outside corner spots to begin the season. Burns’ injury means he probably won’t play and rookie Tariq Woolen might start instead.
Limited participation in practice
Starting right guard Damien Lewis
Lewis injured his ankle in preseason and at first, the injury looked awful. Turns out, thankfully, it wasn’t that bad. He might actually be able to play Monday but if I had to guess, I would say he wouldn’t.
Cornerback Sidney Jones IV
Jones has been cleared to practice after suffering a concussion. He, like Burns, are two of the more seasoned cornerbacks so if neither Burns or Jones is able to play Monday, the Seahawks will be putting a lot of inexperienced players on the field against Wilson. That could be very bad.
Safety Ryan Neal
Backup to Jamal Adams seems unlikely to play with an ankle injury.
Right tackle Jake Curhan
Curhan has been dealing with an elbow injury that will probably keep him out of the game.
Rookie edge rusher Boye Mafe
Per coach Pete Carroll, Mafe will likely play versus the Broncos. Carroll’s exact words were, Mafe “looks to be fine.” Hopefully, Mafe and Darrell Taylor can chase Russell Wilson down a few times.
