Seahawks need Landon Collins

Collins might be the best duplication of Adams. He doesn’t have Adams’ athletic ability but if a player is constantly injured and missing games, how well can that athletic ability really help a team? Not much. But while Adams is out hurt, Collins can be the aggressive pass rusher and run support that Adams can be. Collins isn’t good in one-on-one coverage but guess what? Neither is Adams.

In fact, what the Seahawks really need from their strong safety is exactly what Collins would bring. In a more aggressive Seahawks defensive scheme, and they were more aggressive to begin with in Week 1 and only changed much after Adams left with his groin/knee injury, Collins would be a boon to Seattle’s blitzes. Adams replacements Josh Jones and Ryan Neal can’t really help there.

Collins is also only 28 years old so he should have a few good years left. The reason he is currently a free agent is that he needs a team that can use his unique traits. A team that needs a great coverage safety and doesn’t have one at free safety or strong safety can’t use Collins. But Seattle has Quandre Diggs on the backend. Collins also might be asking a bit too much to sign somewhere as he was due to make big bucks with the Commanders before being released because of the size of his deal.

The Seahawks shouldn’t overpay for Collins but they do, unlike many teams, have some cap space to play with. But Seattle needs all the help it can get with its pass rush and Collins had 3 sacks in 2022 and had 4 in 2016. He’s capable of helping. He may not be Adams but he’s not that far off and Seattle could use Collins’ skills.
