Seahawks defensive tackle Poona Ford

What’s going on with Ford? He is having by far the worst year of his career when the Seahawks absolutely need him to be at his best. Ford isn’t just bad by his standards; He is terrible in comparison to other defensive tackles in the league. Per PFF, Ford is ranked 102 among interior defensive line players and the ranking only goes to 108. But the worst part is that Ford grades just 39.0 against the run. Or 9th-worst in the NFL.

(And don’t even get me started about what a free agent bust – so far – Quinton Jefferson has been. He is 6th-worst against the run.)

I think the Seahawks always had higher pass-rushing hopes for Ford than they should have. They probably see him as a mini-Aaron Donald and he isn’t. Ford is more of a mini-Al Woods, which is fine if Ford is playing well because Woods is a beast. But Ford isn’t playing well and he isn’t even worthy at this point of taking snaps away from other players.

Bryan Mone has played just 42 snaps, for instance, compared to Ford’s 94. Yet, Mone has 5 tackles and Ford just 3. Seattle has been gashed this season against the run compared to 2021 when the Seahawks were second in the league in yards-allowed-per-carry. Seattle is 19th so far in 2022. A big part of this is Ford’s play and if Seattle wants to correct its defense, Ford needs to play better.
