Seahawks need defensive end Marcus Davenport

The Saints are in cap heck in 2023. Marcus Davenport is a good player they would likely love to sign but can they afford him? New Orleans is negative-$63,972,246 in cap room already for next year. Not only will they probably have to release a couple of good players but re-signing their own free agents will be tough too.

This is where the Seahawks need to creep in and scoop up Davenport. In 2021, Davenport had 9 sacks and 16 quarterback hits. While the number of sacks was his career-high, the number of quarterback hits wasn’t. Davenport also plays the run well and in 2020, he missed zero tackles. In 2021, he missed only 3.

It also might not hurt that Davenport went to the same school as Tariq Woolen. Woolen was at the same after Davenport but UTSA isn’t a college that produces tons of NFL talent so those players who do make it in the league might have a greater bond than say players from Alabama do. Of course, I am just hoping that is the case as I’d love for Davenport to be wearing a Seahawks jersey.

Seattle has a great need for a pure defensive end. The team has edge rushers like Uchenna Nwosu but those players are linebackers. Davenport is a lot like Jadeveon Clowney. Davenport isn’t quite as good against the run as Clowney, few are, but he can definitely disrupt when pass rushing.
