3 paths to victory for the Seahawks versus Lions in Week 4

Seahawks need to get early pressure on Lions quarterback Jared Goff
The Seahawks defensive line has certainly not been as good as 2021. That says quite a bit as last year Seattle had a different defensive coordinator and the D-line was actually very good. So 12s probably hoped the defense would be much better with different direction this year but that certainly has not happened. Plus, the run defense, which was at least very good in 2021, is horrible this year.
A lack of good run defense means a few things. Seattle has to overcompensate by keeping its linebackers close to the line. It also means a more reactive defense instead of an aggressive one that can try to pressure the quarterback. Seattle has been terrible at that this year too.
Seattle might replace a bunch of Darrell Taylor’s snaps with rookie Boye Mafe in Week 4. Taylor’s strength is pressuring quarterbacks but he has only 1 sack in 2022 and that came late in Week 3 when the game wasn’t so much in doubt. Taylor hasn’t made any true impact plays this season and none early in games when it mattered most.
For the Seahawks to beat a good Lions offense they need to pressure Lions QB Jared Goff early and consistently often. Taylor hasn’t proven he can do that so hopefully, Mafe can. Plus, maybe Shelby Harris, who missed Week 3, can come back and make a real difference. Basically, no pressure on Goff will translate to a Seahawks loss.
