Attempting to ID the 2022 version of the Seattle Seahawks
By Max Downard
Who are the 2022 Seahawks?
So now that we addressed the defensive elephant in the room, what exactly is this Seahawks team? Are we a playoff team? Are we Super Bowl contenders? Are we a team in rebuild?
To answer my own hypothetical question, I see us as all of these things at once.
What I believe our true identity is is a team that, on any given Sunday, can take the field and dismantle any opponent we face. On the flip side, we are also a team that, on any given Sunday, can take the field and be embarrassed by any team we face.
Obviously, this assessment doesn’t bode well for consistency, but I don’t think anyone expected consistency from a team that underwent so much change in one offseason. This team has shown that it’s capable of putting up complete performances like the one against the Broncos but has also shown that it is capable of putting up performances that make you think, “What the $%#K was that? I hope no one else saw that…” like every Seahawks fan was thinking after our week 2 game against the 49ers.
So, to finally say what I believe this Seahawks teams identity is, is one of the best, but at the same time one of the worst teams. No one should expect ANYTHING from this team ahead of each game. With this mindset, you will be surprised when we look like Super Bowl contenders, but at the same time not surprised when we look like a team that could lose by 40 to the Bears or Panthers, because we are absolutely capable of both.
