Prediction 3: Seahawks defense plays a lot better but Seattle loses a close game

Because of the defensive pressure, the Seahawks defense is better overall. If a quarterback has a bit less time to throw, the defensive backs don’t have to cover as long and the entire defense looks and works better. Plus, let’s not forget it has been very easy to have knee-jerk reactions to how Seattle has played week-to-week.

For instance, we all feel a lot better about the Seattle offense after Week 4. Geno Smith was brilliant, the play-calling was nearly perfect, Rashaad Penny was amazing. But prior to the Lions game, Seattle had only scored a combined 6 points in the second halves of the first three games.

In Week 1, Seattle gave up a decent amount of yards to the Broncos but not many points and we may have felt the defense was going to be more promising than the offense in 2022. That certainly hasn’t been the case.

So Week 5 returns to the norm a bit and probably looks a lot more like Week 1 because the Saints have a not-good offense but a very good defense. Geno will still be solid but the offense won’t be able to run as well. However, Seattle’s defense will be much better than in Week 4.

That said, Seattle will lose a close game on the road 20-17 and fall to 2-3. This is still a rebuilding year and we shouldn’t forget that. There are going to be a lot of ups and downs this year and we have already seen that through the first four games.
