Seahawks vs. Giants: 3 quick predictions for Week 8
By Lee Vowell
The surprising 4-3 Seahawks play the shocking 6-1 Giants in Seattle in Week 8. Both teams, however, are really banged up entering the game. Whoever wins might simply be victorious because they battle attrition better.
Geno Smith may actually have DK Metcalf on Sunday, however. Metcalf injured his patellar tendon in Week 7 and had to be carted off. It looked like he might be out for a few weeks. He still might, but according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Metcalf is expected to play versus the Giants.
But what else might happen this week? Will Seattle move to 5-3? Hopefully. But here are three things I think do happen.
3 bold and quick predictions for Seahawks vs. Giants
Noah Fant has 110 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns
The Giants have a good defense and certainly won’t make things easy for the Seahawks. But they aren’t very good at covering tight ends. New York allows the third-most yards to tight ends in 2022 (Seattle is last). Fant has yet to have a huge game for Seattle but this should be the week he does.
Will Dissly should also get his targets. In fact, the tight ends overall might need to be targeted even more in Week 8. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett might play but neither is 100 percent. Fant could lineup at receiver more than usual and this will only increase his usage and is production.
Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has 130 yards rushing
Daniel Jones is having a very good season in comparison to how he started his NFL career. Jones has 6 touchdown passes versus just 2 interceptions so he, for once, isn’t getting his team beat and actually helping it win. But where he has made himself better is in running with the ball. He has 343 yards rushing, third among all quarterbacks.
The Seahawks defense has played better in the last two games but they still generally struggle against mobile quarterbacks. Two weeks ago against the Cardinals, Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray ran for 100 yards against Seattle, for instance. Jones will get his yards too playing off the running of Saquon Barkley. Seattle just needs to make sure Jones doesn’t beat them through the air as well.
Jordyn Brooks has 20 tackles in a Seahawks victory
Brooks has been consistently solid in 2022 but hasn’t been the impactful force that some may have hoped he would be. He is second in the NFL in tackles but has zero sacks and has missed a career-high 7.6 percent of his tackle attempts.
But the Giants offense should be keeping things close to the line of scrimmage. They have multiple receivers hurt and will probably rely on the running game to beat Seattle. They are capable of this but if Brooks is active and aggressive in Week 8, he should create havoc for the Giants and wrack up tackles.
