The Seahawks had a much more successful regular season (and it might get even better later today) than most people expected. The Denver Broncos were far worse than what people predicted. But even after a Denver win in Week 18, Seattle will have a top-5 pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

For much of the season’s final month, it appeared that Seattle could get a top-3 pick. They acquired this choice from the Broncos in the trade that sent Russell Wilson to them this past offseason. Wilson, for much of the year, was terrible. I harbor no ill will towards Wilson, but I am glad he was bad because it helped mean a better draft pick for Seattle.

With Week 18 done for Denver and Seattle, we now know that the Seahawks will get pick number 5 overall in 2023. That might not be high enough for Seattle to take quarterbacks Bryce Young or CJ Stroud, but Seattle should still be able to get a high-end player. This probably means that Seattle finds a way to re-sign Geno Smith and drafts for defensive need in 2023.

Seattle’s choice is still to be known. A lot depends on what happens in the Lions and Packers game on Sunday. If Green Bay loses and Seattle makes the playoffs, Seattle’s draft pick could fall if they win a game or four. Four would be nice because that would mean a Super Bowl victory.

Seattle also holds Denver’s second-round pick which will be number 37 overall. The Seahawks will have three choices in the top 37 of the draft. Add next year’s rookies to this year’s rookies and Seattle might be a Super Bowl contender by 2024.

This is especially true if general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll make the same kind of choices they made in the 2022 draft. That draft class might be the best in Seattle history. Hopefully, the 2023 class will rank right along with the 2022 one.
