Grading the Seahawks’ secondary

There was a huge question mark looming over this Seattle secondary entering the regular season. After losing D.J. Reed in the offseason and only retaining Sidney Jones, the Seahawks turned to the draft to acquire depth at the CB position. Coby Bryant and Tariq Woolen were a part of that stellar draft class that played an immense role on this team.

Pete Carroll is known for developing cornerbacks. I honestly still don’t understand how Tariq Woolen fell to the fifth round. A player with his size, speed, and intangibles shouldn’t have fallen so far. But, he did and I am not going to complain about it. The comparisons between him and former Seahawk great, Richard Sherman, are uncanny. Woolen had a great rookie year and has a very high ceiling. The Seahawks seemed to have found their true CB1 for the future.

Let’s give Pete Carroll a lot of credit for how this secondary performed. CB Michael Jackson Sr had a really good season for the Seahawks. S Ryan Neal earned All-Pro votes after the season he had filled in for Jamal Adams. Although Quandre Diggs started off slow, he finished very strong. It’s important to keep in mind that he was still recovering from serious leg surgery that he had in the offseason.

Another name we cannot forget is Tre Brown. He once again dealt with injuries, but he has a chance to be a part of this secondary. Both he and Bryant play with a tremendous amount of confidence that is going to result in making plays. We saw Coby force a lot of fumbles with a really solid tackling technique.

Since the departure of The Legion of Boom, Seattle has struggled in piecing together another secondary. It seems they are finally back on the right track. A really impressive 2022 regular season should have fans excited about what’s to come from this group.
