3 former Seahawks that failed with their new team in 2022
By Lee Vowell
Like every NFL team every offseason, the Seattle Seahawks went through a bit of attrition between the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Out went Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner and in came players like Shelby Harris. Seattle did make its splashiest free agent signing in many seasons, though, when they signed edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu. Nwosu was good in 2022.
Some of the free agents the Seahawks lost last offseason went on to have decent years with their new teams. Carlos Dunlap, for instance, had 4 sacks and 12 quarterback hits for the Chiefs this season and his team won the Super Bowl. Left tackle Duane Brown started 12 games for the Jets and had a 72.3 pass-blocking grade, per Pro Football Focus.
Some other players who left Seattle after the 2021 season, whether it was through free agency or being traded, didn’t do so well. Benson Mayowa actually never played with anyone in 2022. Here are three players that did join new teams, however, and didn’t do so well.
Player No. 1: Former Seahawks offensive lineman Jamarco Jones
Jones has the most Jones year ever. The Seahawks’ 2018 NFL draftee – a fifth-round pick – has had issues for most of his career with injuries. In 2019, he actually played in 15 games and started three of them, but this almost seems like a minor miracle. In 2020, Jones missed five games and in 2021, he missed six. Jones hasn’t been truly awful when he did play, but he simply couldn’t stay on the field.
Jones signed with the Tennessee Titans last offseason. The move made sense for both the player and the team as Jones has always been a fairly decent run-blocker and not great at pass protection. The Titans, of course, like to run the ball a bunch.
Still, Jones is only 26 years old so if he can ever find a way to stay healthy, he could probably help some team, likely as a backup. But he didn’t help Tennessee at all in 2022 as he was placed on injured reserve before the season and never played due to an elbow injury.
