What the heck was that? With a slightly healthier defense, a beat-up Giants team traveling cross-country, and a golden opportunity with the 49ers' stunning upset loss, the Seattle Seahawks soiled themselves with the first major setback of the Mike Macdonald era.

With such a horrific loss, social media was on fire the past few days, and we're going to dive into some overreactions.

That is even if they don't necessarily feel like an overreaction after Sunday's shocking loss.

Three biggest overreactions to the Seattle Seahawks Week 5 loss to the New York Giants

“DK has lost Seattle the past two games”

Last week, I pushed back on this narrative, and I will continue to do so this week, although I do feel my conviction is not as strong as before. For the second straight week, the Seahawks were driving for either a thing or a go-ahead score when DK Metcalf fumbled the football away. And for the second straight week, the opposing team immediately went down and scored.

Both plays were clearly the biggest swing moments of the game, but there was more to it than DK losing the game for Seattle. The defense has to get better, the special teams has to be better, and the offense around DK has to be better.

At the same time, I do agre that if DK doesn't lose the ball in both games, the Seahawks would be 5-0 despite their flaws. He has to improve his ball security.

“With loss like that, the season is over”

No, the season is not over. What might be over is the dream of a fairytale season (that seems reserved for the Minnesota Vikings). Before the season started, the vast majority of Seahawks fans were hopeful that John Schneider and Mike Macdonald were the right men for the job and that Seattle would flirt with a playoff spot this year. After a 3-0 start, the expectations began to shift prematurely.

Reality has hit and hit hard, but everything that we were hoping Seattle could achieve this season is still on the table. This team is not as great as their 3-0 start and not as bad as their 0-2 stretch.

“Seahawks can still take a stranglehold on the division on Thursday night”

Now, after trying to be positive, I will be a little pessimistic. I think the Seattle Seahawks are about to walk into an absolute buzzsaw. The 49ers are down and embarrassed, and they should be. This was their last shot with this core to win the title, and they look closer to a top-10 pick than a deep playoff run. Because of that, I think they will get their mojo back before the Seahawks find theirs.

Is there an opportunity for a 2.5-game lead over San Francisco on Thursday? Yes, but I don't think the Seahawks will get back to whatever it is they are until their mini-bye after this game. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we may see the 49ers hang 40+ on Seattle on Thursday.
