The Seattle Seahawks lost their stranglehold on the NFC West title after dropping their Sunday Night Football match-up to the Green Bay Packers this past weekend. The loss allowed the Los Angeles Rams to take over first place in the division and moved Seattle down to being the first team left out of the playoffs if the season ended today.
For anyone watching the game, it wasn't hard to notice how many Packers fans showed up to support the road team. Even former Packers quarterback and current Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers noticed the number of Packers fans who attended the game and were loud the entire time.
While making his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Rodgers praised Packers fans for showing up in masses while also insulting Seahawks fans.
"I couldn't believe how many Packers fans were in Seattle on Sunday night. I heard a Go Pack Go chant in the second quarter when the Packers were on offense. Seattle never used to be like that so shoutout to the Seahawks fans for selling their tickets."
Aaron Rodgers blasts Seahawks fans for letting Packers fans take over their stadium
It's well-known that Packers fans are among some of the most well-traveled in the league. Some travel from the Green Bay/Wisconsin area while others might simply live in the city of where the Packers are passing through. Either way, it's a fan base that always shows up for its team.
With the Packers being in the running for a playoff spot, it's no wonder that they made the trip to Seattle and were loud and proud. It's also easier to be loud and proud for your team when they're dominating the other team, which is how Sunday night's match-up went.
It never really felt as though the Seahawks were in that game and the final score, a 30-13 Packers win, is evidence of just that. Rodgers is right though in saying that Seahawks fans used to always show up and drown out any visiting fans. They're known as the 12th man for a reason and this week, the 12th man honors went to the Packers fans rather than the home team's fans, which was a bummer to see (or hear, rather).
Let's hope Seahawk fans learn from this and can revert to being the loud bunch that they're known for being. A spot in the playoffs could depend on it.
