The Seattle Seahawks are just days away from picking their 2026 draft picks, and links to edge rushers, linebackers, safeties, and running backs have been many in recent weeks, but the latest link happens to be a player ESPN's Adam Schefter touted as one moving up the draft boards fast.
The Seahawks still have some key holes to fill despite the majority of their Super Bowl-winning roster returning next season. Seattle lost a few players in free agency, including two key defensive players: cornerback Riq Woolen and safety Coby Bryant.Â
While the Seahawks have their reliable starters in place at both positions, it's at cornerback behind Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe where more depth is needed, as Nehemiah Pritchett is the only backup cornerback listed on Seattle's official depth chart, which makes Schefter's comments on Treydan Stukes and his recent visit with the Seahawks something to keep an eye on.
Treydan Stukes encompasses everything the Seattle Seahawks love in their defenders
Stukes, who played his best year with the Arizona Wildcats this past season, has made quite the impression during the various team visits he's been present for in recent weeks, leading ESPN's Shefter to remark on Stukes’ overall impression and why he's moved up on many NFL teams' draft boards.
According to Schefter, Stukes is giving many teams the impression that he can play multiple defensive positions, and one NFL general manager even offered Stukes a big stamp of approval.Â
Arizona cornerback Treydan Stukes seems to be climbing on some draft boards," Schefter writes. "He has been busy traveling in recent weeks, with 11 top-30 visits, including to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Kansas City on Tuesday, and Seattle last Monday. Stukes had four interceptions last season and ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the combine. Teams say they think he can play both safety positions, nickel corner, and outside CB.
"One NFL general manager called Stukes 'one of the best safeties I’ve seen (in my time as a GM),' and added he would draft him ahead of Ohio State safety Caleb Downs. 'This guy makes freaky plays that I haven’t seen other safeties make.' It would not be a shock to see Stukes sneaks into Round 1." Schefter added.
That's quite the compliment for Stukes, considering that Caleb Downs is considered by the majority to have been the best defensive player in college football last season, but also the best in this upcoming draft class.
The Seahawks' interest in Stukes makes complete sense; his makeup as a football player fits their bill to the letter. Aside from his talent and skills, Stukes is extremely tough and reliable, which is what the Seahawks' "Dark Side" defense is all about. Stukes also brings speed and length to the cornerback spot, which are two elements they lost when Woolen left in free agency.
The concern about Stukes is the ACL injury he suffered, and the Seahawks medical team likely paid close attention to it during his visit. Considering the Seahawks are likely to use one of their draft picks on a cornerback, Stukes may be exactly what they're looking for.Â
If Shefter is correct in his assessment that Stukes is flying up the draft boards, and the Seahawks' interest in Stukes is real, they would hope that the former Wildcat star is still available at No. 32.
