There's the joke that the NFL actually stands for “Not For Long” about how difficult it can be to maintain success in pro football. The last two weeks have been a perfect example of this not-for-long mindset.

A few days before the Seattle Seahawks loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the NFC West title felt attainable. By halftime of that game, we’re talking about Seattle getting a top-ten pick in the draft. After Sunday’s win, the circle has started over.

It’s the beauty of this league, and what creates so many wild takes and overreactions. This week, we dive into the biggest overreactions after week seven.

Three biggest overreactions to the Seattle Seahawks' Week 7 victory over the Atlanta Falcons

“Geno showed he’s the guy again”

I feel like this is a take I have talked about a few times, but every week, it's a different vibe or take from the public. I will continue to stay steadfast in my belief that a) this is the most important question the organization currently faces, and b) You should not make this decision until the season is complete and we have the full body of work.

If Smith balls out and gets Seattle to the NFC Championship, you’re going to be happy paying him. If he plays well, but you still have questions, there’s not going to be this massive financial change in 2025 to his salary and how it affects the franchise.

Have patience, and let Smith make this decision for John Schneider and Mike Macdonald.

“Jason Myers still sucks”

Unless you have one of those rare Hall of Fame-level kickers, the position gets a ton of hate. Jason Myers is no exception to a large portion of the Seahawks fanbase. Signed to a decent sized contract and then extended, Myers gets a lot of flack for his cap hit and this belief that he's a bad kicker. So far in 2024, he's proven to be one of the best in football.

So far this season, Myers is 9 for 12 in field goal attempts, but one of those was blocked, and the other was a 62-yard miss. He's hot every extra point attempt for the past two seasons and is a valuable piece to this team's playoff run.

Myers showed some of that “boom” with a 59-yard kick late in the win over Atlanta. Stop hating on Jason Myers.

Next. Richard Sherman says the quiet part out loud about Geno Smith. Richard Sherman says the quiet part out loud about Geno Smith. dark

“The NFC West is ours now”

Despite what appears to be the end of the 49ers and Rams era, you have to beat the man to be the man. The early 2000 Seahawks did it to the Greatest Show on Turf Rams, and the Pete Carroll Seahawks did it to Jim Harbaugh’s 49ers to get their Super Bowl.

The next few weeks will determine where this franchise is heading. They were injured and made brutal mistakes at home in their Thursday Night Football loss to San Francisco, but they will be healthy and a better team when they see both the 49ers and Rams in the next few weeks.

Go take their soul down in Santa Clara, and then extinguish all hope for the Rams at home. Do those things, and the Seahawks will be hanging another division title banner.
