3 bold predictions for DK Metcalf in Seahawks’ Week 7 game against the Falcons

Metcalf has had an up-and-down season so far... what can he do to make sure he has an even greater effect on positive team results?

DK Metcalf has had a fast start to the 2024 season, becoming the first Seahawks receiver ever with three consecutive 100-yard games. Recently though... it’s been tough. Against San Francisco in Week 6, Metcalf caught less than a third (three catches) of his targets (11) for 48 yards. That’s not what you’re looking for from your WR1 and is just one of the reasons why the Seahawks lost to the 49ers on Thursday Night Football.

Some fans were quick to point out that on Geno Smith’s second of two interceptions against San Francisco, DK Metcalf seemed to be responsible. Metcalf snapped off a route to a spot where his intended route would’ve taken him to the football, and that was ballgame. It was a young man's first career interception, and it put the nail in the coffin.

There has been somewhat mild frustration reverberating from the Seattle fanbase when it comes to DK’s play so far. In some games, he goes off and dominates, while in others, he disappears. The inconsistency can be maddening. He also fumbled two games in a row during the season's early slate of games. I saw tweets criticizing his strength, his maturity, his route running, etc. There have even been calls for him to be traded.

Three bold predictions for Seahawks wideout DK Metcalf in Week 7

On Wednesday Mike Macdonald said of DK Metcalf: “I feel him throughout the game … his presence is felt out there, for sure." On Thursday Geno Smith called Metcalf “such a special player." Metcalf’s coworkers and supervisors in Seattle all believe in him and his ability to take it up a notch. We should expect the same from a player who has an array of tools that would make most play-callers drool.

Metcalf currently ranks fourth in the NFL in receiving yards, so it’s not all bad. Maybe minor adjustments can help unveil him as an even more efficient passing-game weapon. While OC Ryan Grubb works on that, let’s speculate about how Dekaylin Metcalf can bounce back from a recent slumber.

Prediction 1: Instead of committing a big turnover, DK Metcalf will actually save a turnover

DK has been the cause of three separate turnovers in six games… gross. I’m predicting that he regresses towards the mean, reverses course, and saves a turnover. Geno will have a moment of weakness, relying on DKM's jump ball ability to bail him out. Metcalf will then rip a sure interception out of a DB’s hands. You heard it here. It will be a circus play, with DK acting as the strong man act.

Prediction 2: The man that wears number 14 will regain his swagger, going over 130 yards receiving

After the aforementioned fast start, DK has been held under 56 yards each of the last couple of weeks. Although Falcons corner A.J. Terrell is a terrific player with an All-Pro selection to his name, ESPN doesn't see him as much of a threat to Metcalf this week. If DK Metcalf is allowed to get into his zone and gobble up 130 yards through the air, it would exceed his season-high total for a game so far by one yard. He'll do so, burning Terrell a couple of times on the way just for good measure.

Prediction 3: DK will be seen on the sidelines smiling and laughing while on the headset

When a team is losing, every negative emotion or interaction can be magnified by the media. Last week, camera crews caught a fired-up Metcalf yelling an NSFW sentence into the headsets to offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. He looked to be frustrated at the lack of downfield shots.

Here's to betting that DK Metcalf will be seen this week on the sidelines smiling on the headset and joyfully conversing with Ryan Grubb. They do say that winning cures all in the sport of football. Metcalf and the Seattle Seahawks will look to drink from that magical elixir on the road but hope that they have enough firepower to leave smiling.
