The Seattle Seahawks suffered a cruel loss in Week 3 to the Washington Commanders. Maybe the weather affected what happened, but that is more of an excuse. Head coach Mike Macdonald's team just underperformed. It can't afford to do that again in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
No one can overlook LA, just as no one should have overlooked Washington. The Chargers haven't won a game so far this season, but neither had the Commanders until they defeated Seattle. Plus, there are several interesting storylines entering the game just from the coaching staffs alone.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was the head coach of Michigan when Macdonald was the defensive coordinator for one season there in 2021. Seattle's special teams coordinator, Jay Harbaugh, is the son of Jim. Will that help motivate one coach over another? Maybe.
Bold predictions for the Seattle Seahawks versus Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4
At least the game is a home one for the Seahawks. 12s will turn out in full and could affect the game. Seattle needs a victory to stay near the top of the NFC West, and fans are going to do their best to help the team earn that. That isn't one of our bold predictions, though; that's a given.
Josh Jobe will have two interceptions
Jobe has had a couple of rough weeks in a row, especially in Week 3 when his passer rating allowed was 152.1. He gave up a long touchdown pass and appeared a step off whatever the receiver he was trying to cover was doing. He was re-signed this past offseason to be one of Seattle's top two corners, but he hasn't played like that so far.
The Chargers, though, are struggling offensively. They have thrown more interceptions than touchdown passes (four to three), and Jobe needs a game to remind general manager John Schneider why he brought him back, but not Riq Woolen. Jobe will have his first multi-interception game as Seattle's defense dominates Los Angeles.
Seahawks won't have more than 150 total yards
The Chargers are 0-3, but not because their defense has been overly bad. LA is 16th in yards allowed per play (5.4), 17th in quarterback rating allowed (92.4), and seventh in yards allowed per rush (3.6). If Los Angeles beats Seattle, it will be because the Chargers' defense has been excellent.
Seattle is also struggling to run the ball consistently, and that doesn't seem certain to change against the Chargers. This means Sam Darnold will have added pressure to be brilliant. He won't be, because he will be hemmed in by LA's defense and a lack of offensive coordinator Brian Fleury being able to be creative because of no successful running game.
Seahawks will have six sacks
Los Angeles has allowed eight sacks in three games, which is the ninth-most in the league. Two games have been against the Las Vegas Raiders and Buffalo Bills, two teams that can put pressure on the quarterback, but obviously, so can the Seahawks.
Specifically, this will finally be the game when Dante Fowler Jr. makes a high-end positive impact for Seattle. He hasn't done much this season so far, but he will have three sacks against the Chargers.
