The Seattle Seahawks might not always do as well in the future, but in the last three seasons, they have owned the Arizona Cardinals. Seattle has defeated Arizona every season since 2022, and that is ultimately what matters. One player's perceived success against Seattle is meaningless.
Yet, Cardinals expert Kyler Burd (we are giving him the benefit of the doubt that he is an Arizona football expert here, though we have not explored the issue) attempted recently to throw some sad shade at the Seahawks by tweeting a misleading post about tight end Trey McBride's numbers against the Seahawks.
Mind you, we here at 12th Man Rising did as much research into Burd as he did into how much of a presumed menace McBride has been to Seattle recently. In other words, zero.
Cardinals expert makes poor (and uninformed) attempt to upset Seattle Seahawks fans
In his tweet, Burd points out how much of a percentage of McBride's receiving yards in 2024 came against the NFC West. He then says 203 of the tight ends total in 2024, which was 1,146, came against Seattle. Worse, Burd tries to double down on Seattle by adding, "Seattle, say hello to your new daddy for years to come."
Let's back up, Mr. Burd. Did McBride get 203 receiving yards against Seattle in 2024? Yep. He also averaged a pitiful seven yards per target with no touchdowns. McBride was no more than a check-down option for the Cardinals because that is what the Seahawks defense dictated to the Cards they could do.
After all, even with McBride's 203 receiving yards, Arizona averaged just 12 points a game against the Seahawks in two losses. Seattle basically let McBride pad his statistics a bit while starving the rest of the offense.
One assumes that if Burd was going to say McBride was anyone's "daddy," he would have to choose Seattle. After all, the Cardinals managed to toss the tight end 92 passes in the first 15 games of the year without getting McBride into a position to score a touchdown. The fact that he caught 111 passes in 2024 and only two touchdowns is laughable.
Burd probably would have been wiser to go with McBride being the Los Angeles Rams' "daddy," but instead he focused on receiving yards instead of more important matters, such as touchdowns. Again, Burd looked at one statistic (yards caught) and did not other research.
44% of Trey McBride's receiving yards in 2024 came against NFC West foes.

Against Los Angeles in 2024, the tight end had 190 yards receiving (only 13 fewer than against the Seahawks) in two games and averaged 8.6 yards per target. He also had a touchdown reception. Most importantly, Arizona won one of the more matchups against LA, something they couldn't do against Seattle.
McBride has also spent three seasons in the league, and in 2023, he didn't do well against Seattle. He caught six of his 12 targets for only 63 yards in two games, both losses. Hey, but one was a touchdown, so good job there.
Taking to social media and calling someone somebody else's "daddy" is lazy and archaic. Burd should have done better research into the things that matter. But just like the Cardinals, he doesn't seem to take into account the larger picture, such as wins and touchdowns. Also, if McBride is specifically successful but his team keeps losing to Seattle, we can promise Seahawks fans will be all for it.
