Chiefs likely put the final touches on former Seahawks legend's career

Countdown clock has been running for a bit.

The end has been coming since he forced it to be. 12s might be living in a world where Russell Wilson was still the Seattle Seahawks quarterback after nearly a decade and a half. Instead, Russ forced his way out of Seattle by wanting the general manager and head coach fired.

Instant karma can be a pain, though. The quarterback was traded to the Denver Broncos after he thought he was bigger than the team in Seattle. He also thought he was bigger than the team in Denver, too. He wanted his own office, for instance.

In Year Two with the Broncos, once Sean Payton arrived, Wilson was back to being a regular player, as he should have been. Then he was gone, and played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and then he was gone again and is with the New York Giants.

Seattle Seahawks icon Russell Wilson's career might be in question after Week 3 versus the Chiefs

To be fair, Wilson was pretty good in Week 2 versus the Dallas Cowboys. He passed for 450 yards and a bunch of touchdowns. But his final throw was atrocious, and one no NFL quarterback should throw in a close game. He dropped back, tossed the ball high and deep to no one in particular. The Giants lost the game.

Week 3 was also going to be more difficult. The Kansas City Chiefs weren't only angry after losing two straight games to open 2025, but KC has a good defense as well. The kind that knew how to shut Wilson down after they had faced him twice a year when RW3 was with the Broncos.

Indeed, in Week 3, Russell Wilson was back to being a mess. His offense scored just nine points, he was 18 of 32 passing for only 160 yards, and he had two interceptions. Facing the brutal wrath of New York sports fans, Wilson was booed during the game, and the crowd vociferously chanted rookie backup Jaxson Dart's name. If fans had their way, Wilson would already be benched for Dart.

Giants fans probably were happy with most of what they saw in Week 2 until they weren't. Dart was taken in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, and he was quite good in the preseason. If New York's season goes south, and it definitely will, Dart could be the starter sooner rather than later.

The Chiefs might have moved up the Dart timeline quite a bit. Wilson was bad in Week 1, good (mostly) in Week 2, and back to bad in Week 3. The New York Giants aren't going to win with him. The Seattle Seahawks learned that about Russell Wilson in 2021. Jaxson Dart should start warming up. (Or maybe Jameis Winston, but fans only want to see that for the laughs that will occur.)
