Cooper Kupp wants to help move the Seattle Seahawks forward. He grew up a fan of the team while living in Yakima, Washington, but for the last eight seasons has been helping one of Seattle's greatest rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, win a lot of football games. Many of those victories came against the Seahawks.
Kupp, personally, has been extremely successful in the league. Twice, he had more than 1,000 receiving yards, and he led the NFL in catches, receiving yards, and touchdown catches, and was named First-Team All-Pro in 2021. That has so far been the only year he made the Pro Bowl.
Kupp turned that success into a new deal with Seattle for three years and as much as $45 million. The likelihood is once the full details are known that, the contract is front-loaded with not much, if any, guaranteed money after year one. That is normally how general manager John Schneider does business.
Cooper Kupp excited to be with the Seattle Seahawks but he still has questions
The receiver was officially introduced during a press conference on Tuesday, and he said he was excited to help move the Seahawks forward, but he still had questions about his release from the Rams. It appears LA was not overly communicative with Kupp about why the team wanted to move on from him.
Kupp said, "...it has been difficult. Without a doubt, it has been difficult. We're humans. We're real people. I'm sure (the Rams) have their reasons for why they wanted to do things, whatever it is. Not a ton of clarity in that regard, but at the end of the day, I'm thankful to be able to walk away from that organization...and look at it in a positive light and be very thankful for my time in Los Angeles."
The wide receiver certainly did not appear to harbor any animosity toward his former team, though maybe Seahawks fans should hope he does. There is nothing wrong with a little extra motivation when a player goes up against a team.
What was also revealed is that Kupp will wear number 10. He wore that number during most of his time with the Rams, and also in college at Eastern Washington. Edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu most recently wore the number for the Seahawks. He still plays for the team, but he will now wear number 7.
To get number 10, Kupp donated an unspecified sum to Nwosu's charity. In other words, those in need also won by Seattle signing Kupp and then Kupp doing a good deed.
