DeMarcus Lawrence had to come to the Seattle Seahawks to win a Super Bowl, which is exactly why he decided to sign in the Pacific Northwest in the 2025 offseason. After years of coming up short with the Dallas Cowboys, Lawrence helped Seattle to a title last season.
When he retires, he will probably be remembered by most for his years in Dallas, and that makes sense. He was a tremendous player for the Cowboys for 11 seasons. He has only spent one season with Seattle, and it appears that he won't spend more than two.
According to Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein, Lawrence has said 2026 will absolutely be his final year. This likely doesn't come as a surprise to most 12s. Lawrence is 34 years old and has accomplished seemingly everything he would ever want to do.

What is more surprising than Lawrence calling it quits after 2026 is that he didn't choose to retire after 2025. He won a championship. What else was left to do?
Thankfully, he didn't. Not only will the edge rusher hopefully continue to be a valued member of an elite defense, but he also helped recruit Dante Fowler Jr. to the Seahawks this offseason. If Lawrence retires after last season's Super Bowl, the move with Fowler might not happen. That would mean that Seattle would have had to take a different approach in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Every act has a responding one, and Lawrence sticking with the Seattle Seahawks for one more season, even after his sixth child was born a day after the Super Bowl, helped change how the team approached this offseason, which affects how they will change next offseason.
Through it all, DeMarcus Lawrence has been a stand-up person and honest about his goals. He and the team worked together to help him achieve the biggest one in 2025.
What would be better for both is winning a second straight title. If Lawrence hopes to truly go out while toiling for so many years with the Dallas Cowboys, the best way for that to happen is to never lose at the end of the year with Seattle.
Somewhat ironically, Yahoo's Epstein tweeted the news about Lawrence saying he was done after 2026, a day before the Seahawks play the Cowboys in preseason Week 1. Lawrence is unlikely to play, but at least he has a chance to say his goodbyes to his former teammates in person.
