When the Seattle Seahawks signed veteran edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence this past offseason, some might have logically thought the deal was too much. The problem wasn't the money, but the years. The former Dallas Cowboys star was about to be 33 years old and signed for three seasons.
Seattle general manager John Schneider is a smart guy, though. He often uses a unique way of doing contracts where there is no guaranteed money in years two or three. If Lawrence's play diminished or if he got hurt, the team could let Lawrence go and save money.
The Seahawks potentially letting Lawrence go, though, is no longer a real question. He needs to return as he has been an integral part of a very good defense in 2025. In 11 games, he has five sacks, 16 quarterback hits (his most since 2019), and nine tackles for loss. He has been elite against the run, too.
DeMarcus Lawrence delivers the truth after the Seattle Seahawks' Week 13 victory
But when asked what the season has been like for him after Seattle's 26-0 victory against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13, Lawrence answered succinctly and surely in four words: "It is rejuvenating, man."
Seahawks fans have learned that the edge rusher doesn't mince words, often with hilarious effects. After signing with Seattle in free agency, Lawrence said he didn't mind leaving the Cowboys because he knew he wasn't "going to win a Super Bowl there..." Ouch, at least for Dallas football fans.
Will the edge rusher win a Super Bowl in Seattle? Seahawks fans and the player certainly hope so. A lot of the season is left, and likely none of it will be easy. The team is in a good position to make the playoffs, though.
Plus, Lawrence's admission that he feels rejuvenated this season wasn't his only confession when speaking to reporters after Week 13. He was asked if the 2025 Seahawks defense was the best unit he had ever been a part of. The answer was yes.
This probably wasn't meant to throw shade at his former team, either. While DeMarcus Lawrence spent his first 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, none of his previous teams had a defense as good as the one currently playing in Seattle. The team was intentionally built to have a defense that led the Seahawks to be a championship-caliber squad, and that has happened.
In other words, Lawrence might get the wish the Cowboys were unlikely to ever grant him: Winning a Super Bowl. The Seattle Seahawks could do that this season and make everyone involved happy.
