DeMarcus Lawrence sends stern warning to future Seahawks opponents

Here is why.

The Dallas Cowboys no longer wanted DeMarcus Lawrence after the 2024 season. After missing 13 games last season, maybe Dallas thought the edge rusher was past his prime and would no longer help them miss the playoffs. The Cowboys' loss, though, was the Seattle Seahawks' gain.

Lawrence bounced back to Pro Bowl form in 2025 for Seattle, recording six sacks (his most since 2020) and 20 quarterback hits (his most since 2018). However, his most notable aspect was his ability to help shut down the run. And forcing fumbles, of course. He had three this season, and has always been brilliant at knocking the ball out of ball-carriers' hands.

He had another forced fumble in the Seahawks' Divisional Round game against the San Francisco 49ers. With the game well out of hand, quarterback Brock Purdy scrambled but was caught from behind by Lawrence, who dislodged the ball from the quarterback. Seattle recovered, one of three turnovers the Seahawks forced in the game.

Seattle Seahawks edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence has a philosophy on creating turnovers

Speaking to the media after the game, Lawrence broke down his mindset about running after opponents and his plan for when he reaches them. It isn't good for them.

"I ain't running for nothing, you feel me?" said Lawrence. "If I'm going to run, I'm going to make sure I try to take the ball from you."

He succeeds a lot of the time. The edge rusher is experienced enough and a smart enough player to know just how to punch the ball out, but fast enough to catch up to opponents before they realize Lawrence is about to attack them.

The slightly odd part is that while Lawrence has four total forced fumbles this season, it will be the other end of two fumbles that most fans will remember, and both happened in the same game.

In a Week 10 beatdown of the Arizona Cardinals 44-22, fellow edge rusher Derick Hall knocked the ball out of Jacoby Brissett's hands just before he was beginning his throwing motion, and the fumbles bounced into the hands of Lawrence, who ran the ball in for touchdowns. He had only scored on one fumble recovery before in his 12-year career, and that was in 2022.

To get two in one game is nearly statistically impossible, but what isn't impossible is DeMarcus Lawrence creating turnovers for the Seattle Seahawks. He likely isn't done doing so, and hopefully will have two more chances this season to see if he can.
