Would Kirk Cousins be made available for trade if the Seattle Seahawks came calling? Maybe, because there doesn't seem to be another quarterback out there who could be made available if a team needed an experienced, winning quarterback immediately. Cousins seems like the guy most teams would inquire about. Drew Lock's Week 1 performance made that unnecessary, though.
Lock replaced starter Sam Darnold, who went down with a hip injury on the first drive of the game against the New England Patriots, and Darnold could miss Seattle’s next game and possibly more. After what fans saw against the Pats, however, Lock might be just fine if Darnold does have to miss a game or three.
The veteran backup helped secure the Seahawks' 13-10 victory and was better as the game wore on. While Lock's numbers weren't gaudy, they were efficient and enough to get the win.

With no clear timetable for Darnold's return, the Seahawks would be justified in seeing who they could trade for. However, Mike Macdonald all but shut down any move away from letting Lock carry the Seahawks.
Before coming in for Darnold against the Patriots, Lock was 10-18 as a starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, and the Seattle Seahawks. During his first stint with the Seahawks, he went 1-1. In his second stint, he's 1-0. The Seahawks are banking on this undefeated version of Lock until Darnold returns.
They don't intend to trade for a stand-in quarterback. Or, at least, that doesn't sound like the plan, based on what Macdonald recently said about Lock after the veteran backup quarterback went 16 for 22 for 187 with one touchdown and a 72.7 completion percentage in place of Darnold.
Right now, Lock is certainly the better backup option to take the reins over Jalen Milroe, but the confidence Macdonald expressed in Lock indicates the Seahawks have no intention of not trusting Lock with the keys.
“He’s been tremendous,” Macdonald said according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. “He operates like a starter does in terms of preparation. The chemistry and the personality of our quarterback room is one that is very supportive of each other and also trying to bring out the best in one another. Drew provides a cool confidence, loose and focusedness to the whole equation, which you need — you need that.
“On top of that, since he’s got here, I feel like he’s just played great football in practice and in the preseason. We saw what he could do last night. If he has to play again, then we expect the same moving forward.”
There you have it—the Seahawks are rolling with Lock. What he gave the Seahawks against the Patriots was clearly enough to let him continue forward. Of course, what bodes well for Lock is Seattle's next opponent: the Arizona Cardinals.
In fact, it's not a far stretch to believe the Seahawks can win their next two games with Lock under center, including their third game against the Washington Commanders.
What else bodes well for Lock is the support of his coach and his teammates. Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who caught an incredible one-handed catch on a pass from Lock, also voiced his support for his new quarterback.
For as long as Lock takes over for Darnold, the Seahawks obviously feel good about it. If there was ever a time when Lock needed all the confidence in the world, it's now, and he's getting a ton from his own locker room. Now, it's up to him to latch onto it and let it fuel his own.
