Eagles' struggles could reopen a Seahawks door for Riq Woolen

Maybe...maybe not.

The Philadelphia Eagles are still in the hunt for the NFC East title despite themselves. Philly is 2-3, but they are also willing to trade players, as proven by recently moving offensive lineman Cam Jurgens. This could be where the Seattle Seahawks and cornerback Riq Woolen come in.

Woolen is in his first season with the Eagles and is having a good year. He only signed a one-year deal with Philadelphia, though, and any team acquiring him in a trade would have to pay him very little for the rest of 2026. If Seattle were to try to get him back, the money involved would only be $910,000, according to Spotrac.

The draft capital needed to get Woolen would probably be a late Day 2 or early Day 3 pick. Seattle is projected to have as many as 11 selections in the 2027 draft, so general manager John Schneider has the draft value to try to make a move for Woolen.

If the Philadelphia Eagles are selling off pieces, the Seattle Seahawks should ask about Riq Woolen

Would the Seahawks bring back the mercurial player who was capable of playing shutdown coverage but also picking up needless 15-yard penalties for taunting or unsportsmanlike conduct? Maybe. Josh Jobe was re-signed in free agency by Seattle this past offseason while Woolen was allowed to leave. Jobe, though, hasn't been good.

In other words, the Seahawks need to improve their cornerback group before the season gets away from the team, and Riq Woolen could be the answer.

Through Week 5, Jobe has allowed 15 of his 24 targets to be completed for 191 yards and three touchdowns. He does have one interception, but he hasn't broken up any other passes. He was especially abused in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers by veteran wide receiver Mike Evans, who caught six of his eight targets when covered by Jobe for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Jobe's quarterback rating allowed for the season is 109.5, but he has allowed a rating of 140.0 or worse in two of the last three games.

Woolen struggled in Week 4 when he allowed six of seven targets to be completed against the Los Angeles Rams for 91 yards, but in the other four games combined, only six of 16 targets have been completed against him for 65 yards. He has had three accepted penalties called on him, though.

Thankfully, Nehemiah Pritchett has played pretty well for the Seattle Seahawks this season, and better than Jobe, but the team doesn't truly have any help coming unless it comes via a trade. Trevon Diggs was signed to the active roster ahead of Week 5, but he hasn't been good in several years.

John Schneider has shown he will make moves that he thinks will help his team win games, and that might be trying to bring a former player back. If the Philadelphia Eagles truly are selling pieces in hoping to build for future drafts, moving Woolen, who could leave in free agency after this season, would make sense. Having him return to the Pacific Northwest would make sense, too.
