ESPN's Matt Miller might have laid out a near-perfect draft for the Seattle Seahawks. And, unlike many, he went the full seven rounds. Not just for Seattle, but for every team. And while he might not have written a blurb about each player, he did so through the first three rounds. That is a lot of work.
Plus, he nailed what Seattle should do. More specifically, he nailed what general manager John Schneider could do. Going with an interior offensive lineman in the first round? Pfft. Schneider is not going to do that.
Miller has Seattle choosing wide receiver Matthew Golden as its first choice. Seattle Sports 710 AM's Brock Huard might hate that choice, but Miller's selection is at least realistic. Schneider is probably going to go with the "best" player available, which could be Golden.
ESPN's Matt Miller has a great idea about what the Seahawks should do in the 2025 NFL draft
The receiver ran a 4.29 40 at the NFL combine, and he has decent size at 6' and nearly 200 pounds. There is no question about how well he catches, either, because he has better hands than the player he, for all intents and purposes, replaces: DK Metcalf.
But Miller rightfully waits until the second round before the Seahawks take an interior offensive lineman. The team then goes on a rush. Three of the next four choices would be offensive linemen, with the last of those, Ozzy Trapilo of Boston College, taking over the right tackle spot for the oft-injured Abraham Lucas.
Before that, Miller thinks the Seahawks should take two Georgia products. That would be a win-win, as one is a starter and one is the left guard. They played together for years for the Bulldogs, and that should help their transition to being on the same line in the NFL.
Miller also has Seattle taking a quarterback, but not until the fifth round. The selection of Dillon Gabriel would be wise because the quarterback class in 2025 is relatively weak. Gabriel is accurate and moves well, but he does not have elite arm strength. He would not be expected to start for the Seahawks, but he could be a quality backup for many seasons.
Here is how Miller's draft laid out for Seattle (he also made some excellent picks for other teams, so you should read his article for those):
- First round, pick 18 - Matthew Golden, wide receiver, Texas
- Second round, pick 50 - Tate Ratledge, guard, Georgia
- Second round, pick 52 - Jared Wilson, center, Georgia
- Third round, pick 82 - Josaiah Stewart, edge rusher, Michigan
- Third round, pick 92 - Ozzy Trapilo, offensive tackle, Boston College
- Fourth round, pick 137 - Jamaree Caldwell, defensive tackle, Oregon
- Fifth round, pick 172 - Dillon Gabriel, quarterback, Oregon
- Fifth round, pick 175 - Zah Frazier, cornerback, UTSA
- Seventh round, pick 223 - Jalin Conyers, tight end, Texas Tech
- Seventh round, pick 234 - Nick Martin, linebacker, Oklahoma State
