Failed Seahawks draft pick might be watching his career come to a close

The Seattle Seahawks have a history of turning fifth-round draft picks into diamonds. That happened with Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor, to name two, but it didn't happen with defensive back Tre Flowers.

Flowers was a fifth-round choice in 2018, and he started immediately. He wasn't even that awful in his second season, either, when he had two sacks, had three interceptions, gave up just one touchdown, and had a passer rating allowed of a very good 72.5. But the good times wouldn't last.

By his third and fourth seasons with Seattle, Flowers was making some astonishingly bad plays, mistiming jumps, and letting passes sail over his head for touchdowns. He was terrible, and the team gave up on him and waived him early in the 2021 season.

Former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tre Flowers might have played his last down in the NFL

Since then, he has spent time with six different teams, had just one more interception, and hasn't played in more than four games with any team since 2023. At times, he even played safety instead of cornerback, but he was still awful. The team he had most previously played with was the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Pittsburgh waived him a day after the 2025 regular season ended.

This was the case even though Pittsburgh has more football left to play. The Steelers made the playoffs after defeating the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18 to win the AFC North title. Pittsburgh clearly didn't believe Tre Flowers could help them win in the postseason.

He only appeared in one game with Pittsburgh this season (he was in on zero defensive snaps, and played a handful of special teams reps) after being released by the Detroit Lions in late November. Flowers was involved in 12 defensive snaps for the Lions this season, but didn't record a statistic.

Flowers had quite the precipitous fall from 15-game starter with the Seattle Seahawks in each of his first two seasons to not being trusted enough by any team to even play many games by the end. Maybe he hangs on in the NFL by spending time on the practice squad. But at 30 years old, he might have found that he is now unwanted by everyone.
