First Seahawks injury report for Week 7 extends a frustrating trend

12s should not believe their eyes.

The Seattle Seahawks are getting a little bit of rest after having to play three games in 11 days. (Coincidentally, DK Metcalf caught three of his 11 targets in a loss in Week 6 to the San Francisco 49ers.) This could mean Seattle will feel a bit healthier in Week 7 and possibly get rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II back from injury.

The issue with the initial injury report for Week 7 does not tell us much other than we now know safety Rayshawn Jenkins will miss at least four games. He was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday. He has a hand injury.

As was often the case with former head coach Pete Carroll, the team would choose to rest players even with minor injuries, and they would show up on the injury report. The difference between Carroll and new head coach Mike Macdonald is that Macdonald does not like to tell the media anything about how badly players are hurt.

Seahawks' designations on initial injury report for Week 7 versus Falcons

So when one looks at Wednesday's initial injury report versus the Atlanta Falcons, the truth is that, while the Seahawks are not intentionally fluffing up who is hurt, there could simply be players being rested instead of truly in danger of missing the next game.

That is both good news and bad, of course. Ahead of Week 6, Seattle listed four players as not participating in the team's first practice. Of those, 12s knew Uchenna Nwosu was not going to play because he was being placed on injured reserve. Derick Hall did play against the 49ers. That means, truly, only two of the players listed were iffy about missing the game.

Seattle has some players listed as limited or not participating ahead of the Falcons game who will play. Three games in 11 days is difficult, and even with the extra rest of having played last on Thursday Night Football, Seattle might give a banged-up player one more day of rest. Here is what happened on Wednesday.

Did not participate:

  • Offensive tackle Stone Forsythe (hand)
  • Guard Anthony Bradford (toe)
  • Cornerback Tre Brown (ankle)
  • Cornerback Riq Woolen (ankle)
  • Wide receiver Laviska Shenault, Jr. (back)

Limited participation:

  • Center Connor Williams (chest)
  • Edge rusher Boye Mafe (knee)
  • Defensive tackle Byron Murphy II (hamstring)
  • Defensive lineman Leonard Williams (knee)
