The Seattle Seahawks are not an organization afraid of taking a gamble. To be sure, a lot of thought goes into the situation as general manager John Schneider is always looking to find ways to improve the team. Some risks don't pay off.
One of those was Quinton Bohanna. The 6'4" and 355-pound defensive tackle was originally a 2021 draft pick for the Cowboys, and Dallas gave him a chance to be a productive player. In his first two seasons combined, he played in 27 games and started 10. Bohanna has only played in 12 total over the last three seasons, however.
One reason is that he isn't going to supply much quarterback pressure, and needs to be able to tackle well as a run defender. He hasn't done that. He had four tackle attempts for the Seahawks in 2025 and whiffed on one of them. Head coach Mike Macdonald likes to have a big front four, but he also likes players to have positional flexibility.
Former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna finds a new home with the Packers
In other words, Bohanna was simply never a great fit for what Seattle wants to do. Many times, when a player does not have an elite skill set, scheme fit is everything. The defensive tackle might be a long-term player in the NFL, but that would have to be with the right team.
Ahead of Week 14, Seattle released Bohanna, but he wasn't a free agent long. The Green Bay Packers claimed him, which means he will now be an active part of Green Bay's roster instead of being stuck on someone's practice squad.
Even better, the Packers play a base 4-3 defense most of the time, so Bohanna can play along the interior of the line, but will have a different assignment than he did with Seattle. Instead of playing off either side of center, Bohanna can position himself between the guard and center and should be able to eat up more space.
He might not ever be a Pro Bowl player, and simply a rotational piece, but he at least has a very good chance and proving he belongs in the league. The Packers needed some help at defensive tackle, especially due to the injury to Devonte Wyatt, and the former Seattle Seahawks DT could have an immediate impact on his new team.
Even failed gambles for the Seahawks deserve a chance elsewhere. Maybe Green Bay has found a hidden gem for their system in Quinton Bohanna.
