Some NFL analysts assume that quarterback Russell Wilson will one day be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This might be so, but only based on his years with the Seattle Seahawks. Even with his success with the team, he never received a single MVP vote, and only once was named to an All-Pro team (he was Second-Team in 2019).
This is not to dismiss what Wilson did in Seattle. He remains the best quarterback in franchise history, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. But after working his way out of Seattle due to his arrogance of trying to get general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll fired, Wilson hasn't been the same.
He has always been a quarterback who refused to throw over the middle well, and many times tried to force a deep pass when a check-down would do. His numbers even last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers look efficient, but many times when Wilson's offense can pick up a first down, it doesn't because of Wilson's inefficiency.
Former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson might be set to doom the New York Giants
Now, Russell Wilson is on his third team in three years (and fourth in five), and he still has his believers. He is going to start for the New York Giants in 2025, and Giants head coach Brian Daboll said as much after the team's training camp on Wednesday.
The coach said that veteran Jameis Winston and rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart will compete for playing time, but the QB1 spot belongs to Wilson. Winston makes a lot more mistakes than Wilson, so that makes sense. Dart hasn't played a down in the NFL and might be overwhelmed when he does.
Brian Daboll on the starting QB job: “These guys will be out here competing but Russ is the starter.”

It makes sense to start Wilson. He acts and talks like the starter, too. Sometimes he is not self-aware enough to understand that his words play nice, but his actions seem arrogant, and that will wear thin eventually. He also has a chance to rebuild his career.
The issue is that Daboll and the Giants coaching staff don't yet know how the Russell Wilson idiom works. The quarterback presents himself as a leader, and he might have a three-to-one touchdown-to-interception ratio, but New York might struggle to score points. This is how a Wilson-led offense works in the last few years.
It is a mystery and one that might get Brian Daboll fired in New York. Too much trust in Wilson at this stage of his career is a haunting thing. One can almost guarantee a solid start for the Giants and the former Seahawks quarterback until things go south quickly. That is what happened with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Wilson last year.
Or Russell Wilson may find the Giants to be a great fit, and he and the team exceed expectations. Perhaps, New York is even better than the Dallas Cowboys. Now, that is something we can all root for.
